Abstract
The purpose of this research is to design a proper model for leadership competency at public universities in Tehran. In terms of purpose, this research is a developmental and applied one, which follows combined method including both qualitative and quantitative stages. In the qualitative stage, a 12-hours in-depth interview was conducted with 16 participants whose results were analyzed by content analysis method. In the quantitative stage, a researcher-made questionnaire with high validity and reliability and Cronbach's alpha coefficient of 0.947 was developed to be distributed among university leaders randomly. Exploratory factor analysis was used to identify the components of the leadership competency model, and confirmatory factor analysis and structural equation modeling, LISREL and IMOS were used for pattern fitting which resulted in the conceptual confirmation of the model. Having achieved the fitting the conceptual model of the research, 88 competencies were classified into eight main components.
