Abstract
One of the teachings of the school of Shahīd Suleimānī is the precedence of “being a martyr” over “becoming a martyr”. This doctrine arises from religious concepts. The present study seeks to explain the Qur’anic components of “being a martyr” in the school of Shahīd Suleimānī based on Grounded Theory Approach to explain why and how “spiritual martyrdom” takes precedence over “current martyrdom [Mujāhid]”. The meaning of self-martyrdom is the killing of the pasein for the sake of Allah (SWT) and the meaning of the current martyrdom is the killing of the body for the sake of Allah (SWT). Therefore, by examining verses from the Holy Qur’an about the martyrs, all their characteristics were extracted, coded, categorized, and finally the Qur’anic components of “the priority of being a martyr over becoming a martyr” were learned. One of the results of this research is the discovery of the components that, if observed, “spiritual martyrdom” is obtained for human beings and, if continued, puts human beings on the path of receiving the gift of “current martyrdom”. A set of causal and grounded conditions leads to the adoption of specific behavioral strategies in the lives of those were killed in the way of Allah (SWT), of which murder for the sake of Allah (SWT) is only one consequence. Therefore, the way of “current martyrdom” is only through “spiritual martyrdom”.
