Abstract
The purpose of this research was to determine the effectiveness of group counseling with a rational-emotional approach (REBT) on communication patterns, intimacy and conflict resolution styles in married military personnel with severe depression symptoms. The statistical population of the research included married male employees with symptoms of severe depression in the second 6 months of 2021 Using available sampling, 30 people were selected and randomly assigned to two experimental and control groups (15 people in each group). . To identify married male employees of the military forces with severe depression symptoms, the depression questionnaire (Beck et al., 1996) was distributed among 450 people and 30 people with scores higher than 29 in the depression questionnaire and diagnosed with depression symptoms were selected through clinical interview. In order to collect information, questionnaires on couples' communication patterns (Christens and Sulawai, 1991), marital intimacy questionnaires (Thompson and Walker, 2002) and couples' conflict resolution questionnaires (Rahim, 1983) were used. On the experimental group in 8 sessions of 90 minutes, the rational-emotional approach was implemented and multivariate covariance analysis was used to analyze the data. The results have shown that group counseling with a rational-emotional approach (REBT) is effective on communication patterns, intimacy and conflict resolution styles in married military personnel with severe depression symptoms (p<0.05).
