Abstract
Deep sea mining is a field for exploration and development that has been growing rapidly in recent years. Based on the notification of general sea-oriented development policies by the Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution, it is necessary to pay double attention to a significant leap in the maximum exploitation and optimal use of the capacities, resources and reserves of the marine ecosystem by preventing the destruction of the marine environment. In this article, an attempt has been made to review the history of the mining industry in the sea, by examining the existing capacities in this industry and the state of the laws and technical and safety requirements, to provide suggestions for a smart entry into this field. According to the studies conducted, the deep sea has huge resources of various minerals, and for this reason, mining in the deep sea can be used as one of the main sources in providing metals and other minerals for various industries. However, due to the difficulty of locating vehicles, sampling subsurface materials and rare geological information, it has caused organizations and research centers to develop unmanned underwater vehicles for exploring, prospecting and extracting mines in the sea. Also, the development of unmanned underwater vehicles, while increasing the efficiency of operations in the subsurface, will cause less damage and risks to the marine environment and increase safety for the human sources. In the end, the development capacities of this industry for Iran have been examined.
