Abstract | ||
Beliefs about a good parent play a vital role in the daily life of parents and act as a guide for parenting decisions and parenting behaviors. In this regard, the current research has sought to understand the characteristics of good fathering by using the phenomenology method. For this purpose, based on purposeful sampling, ninety people including fathers, mothers, married men and women without children, unmarried boys and girls of marriageable age living in Tehran were interviewed. As a result of the analysis of the interviews, twelve characteristics were identified for good fathering in order of importance: "acceptable role model", "all-round development", "Constructive interaction with the child", "committed agency", "appropriate interaction with the mother", "sustainable support", "loving affection", "sincere friendship", "prudent management", "knowledge-oriented talent cultivation", "soothing security", and "kindly authority". The findings indicate that fathers are expected to participate comprehensively and very actively in raising children, which makes it necessary to provide the necessary ground for fathers to acquire the necessary knowledge and skills. | ||
