Abstract
The science of packaging in the food industry is the knowledge of food storage in packaging that can store foods or drinks without changing the taste, color, and absence of any pathogenic agent. One of the many types of packaging in this industry is packaging in metal cans. To make these cans, certain metals are used. Metal cans are usually coated with a layer of polymer material, so that the metal is not affected by the food, because high acidity food contributes to the corrosion of the metal body. Metal corrosion can cause leakage from the can and eventually spillage, corrosion of food or drink. Polymer coating prevents corrosion reactions between food and metal body. The present paper is an overview of the metals found in the packaging industry for canned cans as well as polymers used as coatings on metal.
