| چکیده | ||

| چکیده [English] | ||
| The role of missionary women in the process of educating Iranian women with Pierre Bourdieu's approach Abstract In the nineteenth century, Protestant missionaries played a pivotal role as key actors in the modern non-governmental movement across the world. American missionaries, with the aim of propagating the New Christianity, arrived in Iran and, upon observing the mass of illiterate women, turned to their education. This research, utilizing Bourdieu's theoretical framework, analyzes the interaction among educational, gender, and religious fields and seeks to answer the question: What was the role of missionaries in the process of women's education and its intersection with gender and religious fields? The primary objective is to understand the cultural capital and habitus of missionary women in transforming or resisting the structures of Iranian society. Employing an analytical approach and relying on historical texts, missionary documents, and missionary reports, this study aims to fill a research gap in analyzing the overlap of the aforementioned fields. Findings indicate that missionary schools, by introducing new curricula, contributed to the acceleration of women's education but faced opposition from traditional and religious structures when attempting to impose symbolic Protestant religious capital and Western habitus. This demonstrates that the success of missionaries in education was sustainable only when it aligned with the cultural and religious teachings of Iranian society. | ||
